Therapy for adolesents
Childhood and adolescence are stages of psychological development in which the individual experiences major developmental changes.
The teenager needs to discover himself and define his identity by pursuing his independence. On this difficult path of exploration, he is confronted with various questions about his future, his values, beliefs and attitudes, his personality, his relationships. Art psychotherapy aims to know and accept oneself, to recognize one's strengths and weaknesses, to express and manage one's emotions. The purpose is psychological empowerment and the development of one's identity.
The first session is called the assessment session. Appointments last 50 minutes and cost €40 per individual session.
Because therapeutic change depends on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client, it is a good idea to talk to your child before the first session and discuss the reasons why he needs the help of a specialist. This helps the mutual relationship of trust and transparency.
For the treatment to be effective, the active assistance of the parents, who participate in counselling sessions, is needed.
Due to confidentiality, the content of therapist-adolescent sessions (over 12 years old) remains confidential, and the young person's consent is needed to discuss sessions with parents. Confidentiality is breached in serious cases where the young person's safety may be threatened and parents/guardians should be informed accordingly.
